Jammu & Kashmir to Get Two IPL-Ready Stadiums as Historic Ranji Final Run Sparks Infrastructure Push
Gulmarg, February 23: History beckons for Jammu & Kashmir cricket in Hubali. For the first time, the Paras Dogra-led side has marched into the Ranji Trophy final, scripting a memorable semi-final victory over Bengal in Kalyani last week. They now face a formidable Karnataka unit, captained by Devdutt Padikkal, at the KSCA Cricket Ground starting Tuesday (February 24).
Their entry into the Ranji Trophy final is a stirring testimony to the hard work of its cricketers, achieved despite limited resources and infrastructure compared to established cricketing powerhouses.

The entire Union Territory-State is swelling with pride at the achievements of this spirited band of cricketers, who have given the people of the region a powerful reason to celebrate. Cricket unites India like no other sport, and for Jammu & Kashmir, this historic run offers not just silverware hope but a renewed sporting identity.
It was fitting, then, that the team's domestic milestone found mention at the podium of the Khelo India Winter Games 2026 opening ceremony in Gulmarg. Ministers and the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Singh, conveyed their best wishes to the side ahead of their summit clash, acknowledging that the moment transcends sport.
On the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Winter Games 2026 in Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir Sports Minister Satish Sharma expressed pride in the team's achievement and laid out an ambitious roadmap for the development of cricket and sports infrastructure in the Union Territory.
"They Have Done Wonderfully With Limited Resources"
Sharma hailed the team's journey as a triumph of resilience. "They have done exceptionally well this time. With limited resources - we don't have what they have in other states - they have done wonderfully," he said.
Exuding confidence ahead of the final, the minister added: "I hope we will lift the Ranji Trophy, and everyone will be proud of them."
For Sharma, the team's success goes beyond sport. He believes it carries a deeper message. "We have to send a message of peace, brotherhood and sports. The spirit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir - we are peace-loving people. We are the Taj of Hindustan (Crown of India) and we will play a very important role in the days to come."
Rewarding Success, Building the Future
When asked how the government plans to reward the team for their historic campaign, Sharma hinted that recognition and support would follow their performance in the final.
More significantly, he stressed upon a broader infrastructure push aimed at transforming the sporting landscape of the region. "In the days to come, we will have to invest in equipment, stadiums," he said, stressing that infrastructure development would be a top priority.
The minister revealed that discussions have already taken place with Jay Shah, President of the International Cricket Council, and Rohan Jaitley, President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association.
"They have agreed for two big IPL stadiums," Sharma said, adding that the Union Sports Minister is also positive about the proposal and is expected to visit on February 26.
The plan, he indicated, is to construct two major cricket stadiums capable of hosting Indian Premier League matches - a move that could firmly place Jammu & Kashmir on India's premier cricketing map.
Focus on Rural Infrastructure
While the IPL-ready stadiums would be marquee projects, Sharma emphasised that grassroots development remains equally important. "After that, we really need to improve rural infrastructure," he added further.
The government's vision, he suggested, is not limited to elite cricket but extends to ensuring access to equipment, training facilities and structured pathways for young athletes across districts.
As the Jammu & Kashmir team prepares to battle Karnataka in Hubli, the Ranji final represents more than a shot at silverware. It marks a turning point - both for a squad that has defied limitations and for a region looking to harness sport as a vehicle for growth, opportunity and unity.
Should Paras Dogra and his men complete the fairytale, it would not just be a cricketing milestone - it could accelerate a sporting renaissance in the Valley.
