IPL 9: Suresh Raina completes 4000 runs in IPL, overtakes Kohli as all time highest-scorer

Kanpur, May 19: A day after Virat Kohli overtook him as first player to score 4000 runs, Gujarat Lions' skipper Suresh Raina on Thursday (May 19) too completed 4000 runs in the IPL.

The left-handed batter also went past Virat Kohli to become highest run scorer in all cash-rich league.

Raina, the former Chennai Super Kings southpaw, needed 18 to overtake Kohli's 4002 before the game when he came out to bat against Kolkata Knight Riders here on Thursday.

Raina, the local boy, led his side from the front in the run chase and scored unbeaten 53 of 36 balls. Raina's effort included a straight six off Morkel and seven delightful boundaries.

The experienced Raina, who returned to action following the birth of child, steadied the ship alongside Aaron Finch. With run rate pressure not there, the two batted sensibly to take the team at the doorstep of victory.
