India vs Netherlands: Shivam Dube inspire as Surya's Men march to Super Eight with comfortable Win

India completed their T20 World Cup group stage assignment with a 17-run victory over the Netherlands on Wednesday (February 18) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

This result extended India's unbeaten run in Group A to four wins from four matches, topping the group and maintaining their perfect record heading into the Super 8 stage. Shivam Dube was named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution.

India, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, won the toss and elected to bat first on a batting-friendly pitch. They got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets including Abhishek Sharma for a duck and Ishan Kishan cheaply, slipping to 69/3 at one stage. However, a strong middle-order recovery followed. Shivam Dube unleashed a blistering innings of 66 off just 31 balls, studded with 4 fours and 6 sixes, providing the impetus. Suryakumar Yadav contributed a brisk 34, Hardik Pandya added a quick 30, and Tilak Varma chipped in with 28. Despite Logan van Beek's 3/56, India posted a competitive 193/6 in their 20 overs.

In reply, the Netherlands showed fight but never fully threatened the target of 194. They reached promising positions but lost wickets at regular intervals. Max O'Dowd top-scored with a half-century, and Bas de Leede made 33, but India's bowlers applied pressure effectively. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was the standout, claiming 3 wickets for 14 runs in an economical spell that derailed the chase.

Shivam Dube also picked up 2/35, while Jasprit Bumrah and others kept the death overs tight. Netherlands finished at 176/7 in 20 overs, falling short by 17 runs despite a late flourish. This win highlighted India's depth in batting and bowling variety, with Dube's dual impact proving decisive. The Netherlands, already eliminated from Super 8 contention after other results, fought valiantly but couldn't overcome India's all-round prowess.

India will now begin their Super 8 matches against South Africa on February 23 in Ahmedabad, and they have Zimbabwe and West Indies later.
