India Vs Australia 2nd ODI: Holkar Cricket Stadium Indore Pitch Report, Weather Forecast, Stats & Record

Team India will look to seal the series when they continue to warm up for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in the 2nd ODI of the three-match series against Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday (September 24).

KL Rahul-led India eased to a 5-wicket win over Pat Cummins-led Australia in the first ODI at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Friday (September 22) to go 1-0 up in the series.

After Mohammed Shami's five-wicket haul bundled out Australia to a below par 276 on a flat wicket in Mohali, openers Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed fifties to share a 142-run stand to power India to a good position in the run chase.

Gill top-scored with 74 off 63 balls in the first international match in front of his home crowd, while Gaikwad added 71 off 77 balls. However, it was skipper KL Rahul (58 not out off 63 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 49 balls) that ensured India crossed the line with 8 balls to spare.

Gill, Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer (3) fell in quick succession. Ishan Kishan too followed after a contribution of 18 from 26 balls to hand Australia some hope in the match.

But, Australia struggled to gain control after the fast start from Gill and Gaikwad. Spinner Adam Zampa and skipper Cummins were the only two bowlers to claim wickets, while one was a run out.

Earlier, Shami got things rolling for the hosts after Rahul opted to chase by removing Mitchell Marsh in the first over. The 33-year-old then added the scalps of Steve Smith (41 off 60 balls), Marcus Stoinis (29 off 21 balls), Matthew Short (2) and Sean Abbott (2).

While Shami ended as the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 5/51 in 10 overs, Ravichandran Ashwin, who played his first ODI at home in a long time, also claimed a wicket alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.

For Australia, David Warner was the top scorer with 52 runs from 53 balls followed by wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis, who had mixed night behind the stumps, scored 45 runs from 45 balls. None of the Australians failed to convert their starts.

The two sides will now clash at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, where they will meet in a ODI for the second time. And it's a venue where India remain unbeaten in six ODI matches. Here is a look at the Holkar Cricket Stadium ODI Stats, Record, Pitch Report and Indore Weather Forecast:

Indore Holkar Cricket Stadium Info

Founded: 1990

Seating Capacity: 30,000

Number of matches hosted: 3 Tests, 6 ODIs, 3 T20Is

Holkar Cricket Stadium Pitch Report

The wickets at the Holkar Cricket Stadium are known to be batter friendly thanks to the even bounce and smaller boundaries. The most recent ODI at the venue is a testament of that as India posted a massive 385 riding on centuries from Gill and Rohit Sharma.

In response, the New Zealanders were in the game for most part of the match but fell to a huge 90 runs after Devon Conway's hundred could only take them to 295 in 41.2 overs.

The Indian spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal combined for five wickets. However, a total of 32 sixes were struck in the match with every bowler being hit for at least one maximum in his spell.

The team batting first and posting a big total can apply pressure on the team chasing with the slow bowling options. However, the record is even when it comes to victories for team defending a total or a team chasing. So, it will be interesting if India prefer to chase again.
