"What India would miss maybe is his fighting spirit out in the game, his competitiveness, desire to win. He's made No.18 his, hasn't he?" said Stokes, while speaking to reporters ahead of the Test.

The absence of Kohli, who has time and again haunted English bowling attacks with his grit and flair, is clearly being felt on both sides of the border. Stokes, who has shared several iconic on-field face-offs with the Indian maestro, sounded almost nostalgic.

"It's going to be a shame not to be playing against him... we both have the same mindset on the field," he added, acknowledging Kohli's warrior-like presence in the heat of battle.
