India has potential to win the World Cup: Azhar
Kozhikode, Feb 24 (UNI) India has the potential to win the 2007 Cricket World Cup in West Indies next month if their recent performances were off any indication, former Indian Captain Mohammed Azharuddin said here today.
Talking to newspersons here, on the eve of the India-Pakistan Veteran ODI series here, he said, although we lacked good all-rounders, the team has proved their mettle in their recent performances, including the one against Sri Lanka. ''We have talented players like Yuvaraj Singh and Virendra Sehwag,'' he added.
Azhar said the return of the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, would be an added advantage to the side.
Describing Sourav as an outstanding player, Azhar lauded the Bengal Southpaw for staging a comeback in the Indian squad.
He said it was 'unfortunate' that V V S Laxman was not selected. ''He is one of the best batsman in the country'', he added.
