India equal Pakistan in Semifinal List in T20 World Cups, England also in Same Bracket
In a landmark achievement, Team India has now matched Pakistan's record for the most semifinal appearances in ICC Men's T20 World Cup history, reaching the last four for the sixth time.
This milestone was sealed with a thrilling five-wicket victory over West Indies in their crucial Super 8 match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 1, 2026, in the ongoing tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

India equal Pakistan in T20 World Cup Semis Appearance
Pakistan previously held the benchmark with semifinal appearances in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2021, and 2022. India has now joined them at the top with entries in 2007, 2014, 2016, 2022, 2024, and 2026. England also shares this record with six semifinal berths (2010, 2016, 2021, 2022, 2024, 2026), creating a three-way tie among the format's leading sides.
The 2026 campaign has tested India's mettle as defending champions. Placed in Super 8 Group 1 alongside South Africa, West Indies, and Zimbabwe, the Men in Blue needed a win in their final group match against the two-time champions West Indies, to secure progression. South Africa had already topped the group unbeaten, leaving India and West Indies to fight for the second semifinal spot.
After winning the toss and choosing to field, India restricted West Indies to 195/4 in their 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah starred with figures of 2/36, dismantling key partnerships, while Roston Chase (40) and Jason Holder (37*) provided late resistance for the Caribbean side.
In the chase, India reached the target of 196 with four balls remaining, finishing at 199/5. Sanju Samson delivered a match-winning unbeaten 97 off 47 balls, smashing eight sixes in a breathtaking knock, well supported by Tilak Varma's 27. Despite Jason Holder's 2/38, West Indies could not defend the total.
The victory eliminated West Indies and set up a blockbuster semifinal clash against England at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on March 5. As India pursues a third T20 World Cup title, equalling Pakistan's semifinal record adds fresh intensity to one of cricket's greatest rivalries and underlines India's growing dominance in the shortest format.
