IND vs ENG: 120 km away from Ranchi, The Sad Situation of this stadium where Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni scored runs for India

As India are taking on England in the 4th Test of their five-match series, the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi, there is another stadium in the state which is standing alone in the darkness.

About 120 km south of Ranchi, the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur, once a prime venue for international cricket matches in India, now stands in solitude reflecting a bygone era of cricket glory.

Located in Jamshedpur, or Tatanagar, the Keenan Stadium was once the pride of the region, regularly hosting international matches for India from 1983 to 2005. This stadium, associated with the Tata family, one of India's most prominent business dynasties, has a rich cricketing history.

However, it has not seen international cricket action since 2005. In contrast, the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi has risen to prominence, offering a modern and visually stunning venue for cricket's finest to showcase their talent.

The Decline of Keenan Stadium

On the eve of the Ranchi Test, a closer examination by MyKhel revealed the stark reality of Keenan Stadium's current state. Despite its impressive structure, much of the stadium has fallen into disrepair, with significant portions of the stands demolished.

The Naoroji Pavilion remains, though other facilities are modest at best. The decline is symbolized by the deteriorating pillars, silent witnesses to the stadium's glorious past, which hosted cricket legends like Vivian Richards and Gordon Greenidge, and witnessed memorable performances, including a century by former India captain Sourav Ganguly against South Africa in 2000. The last international match played here was between India and Pakistan in 2005, and MS Dhoni also played the match.

The stadium only hosts the domestic matches as Jharkhand plays the Ranji Trophy at the ground now. The people of Jamshedpur are disappointed with how things have panned out, but the condition of Keenan Stadium is likely to remain the same.
