ICL is only to improve cricket, not fight others: Kapil

Kochi, Jul 27 (UNI) 'Haryana Hurricane' Kapil Dev today said the proposed Indian Cricket League (ICL) was being launched only to improve the standard of cricket and not to ''fight against anyone'' and asserted that pursued with a determination, the league would be able to overcome problems like lack of infrastructure.

Talking to reporters here, the former captain, who had aligned with the ICL, said there would be problems and hurdles. ''But, we know how to swim. We will sail through. Don't worry.'' Stating that India had produced some great cricketers in the past 75 years, the former pace bowler said that the country however had failed to perform well as a team.

''We have produced great players but not great teams. And this is what disturbs me and many others,'' he added.

Asked about the lack of infrastructure like grounds, facing the league, Kapil said with a determined mind, all these problems could be overcome.

''We will play in village grounds, schools and colleges. What is required is a determined mind, the place will not be a problem.

We will play anywhere,'' he added.

Thanking his fellow players for supporting the ICL, the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century said the purpose of the league was to improve the game and not to fight against anyone or destroy anything.
