ICC to consider reducing 2011 World Cup by nine days

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 20 (UNI) The ICC Chief Executives' committee has set forward a proposal to reduce the 2011 World Cup to 38 days.

The proposal follows heavy criticism of last year's event in the Carribean's which lasted for 47 days.

According to the proposal, the number of competing nations will be reduced to 14 from 16, which will enable the tournament to be reduced by nine days.

The new format would see the top four teams from two pools of seven progressing through to the quarter-finals - rather than having a Super Eights round.

The 2011 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
