ICC opts for zero tolerance approach towards sledging

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 21 (UNI) The International Cricket Council (ICC) wants umpires to adopt a zero tolerance approach towards sledging and apply the existing code of conduct whether verbal exchanges between opposing players fall into the category of 'abuse'.

''The code of conduct is seen as a fulsome and robust document.

It will still be very much up to the umpires to decide where that line is,'' ICC spokesman James Fitzgerald said.

''The member countries have agreed that ICC will take a zero- tolerance approach,'' he added.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the ICC Chief Executives' Committee here earlier this week.
