ICC fines West Indies, Australia for slow over-rates

Antigua, Jun 2 (UNI) Australia and West Indies teams were fined for maintaining slow over-rates during the first Test in Kingston, Jamaica.

The ICC Match Referee Roshan Mahanama imposed the fines after West Indies and Australia were ruled to be five overs short when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

As such, West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting were fined 50 per cent of their match fees with each of their players receiving 25 per cent fines.
