ICC committee to meet for scrutiny of presidential candidates
Dubai, Feb 13 (UNI) The ICC Nominations Committee will meet here tomorrow for a preliminary scrutiny of the two nominations filed for the election of its next president.
The members of the committee will submit a report to the ICC Executive Board which is scheduled to meet in Cape Town, South Africa, on March 1.
England and Wales Cricket Board Chairman David Morgan and Board of Control for Cricket in India President Sharad Pawar are the two candidates in the fray.
A new system for appointing the ICC President was put in place in June 2005. In the first of a three-stage process, the Nominations Committee will report to the Board which in turn will forward a recommendation to the ICC Annual Conference in London in June where final voting will take place.
In order for a candidate to be successfully voted in as ICC President, he must secure support from two-thirds of the ten Full Members at the Annual Conference.
The Committee consists of Dr AC Muthiah, Bob Merriman, Mueen Afzal, Stephen Camacho, John Blair and Imran Khwaja.
Current incumbent Percy Sonn will hold office till the end of 2008.
