Hearing on IPL auction case adjourned to March 24

Vadodara, Mar 12 (UNI) Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today sought time to file its reply to a show cause notice recently issued by a city court on a petition that challenged cricketers' auction for the forthcoming Twenty20 IPL tournament.

Vadodara Civil Judge (senior division) P P Shah adjourned hearing on the matter to March 24 after advocate Bindu Kumar, appearing for the BCCI, sought time to file its reply.

Acting upon a petition filed by Baroda Bar Association (BBA) president Narendra Tiwari, the court had earlier issued show cause notices to BCCI, IPL, central government and all the eight IPL franchise team owners, including corporate tycoon Mukesh Ambani and Bollywood actors Preity Zinta and Shah Rukh Khan.

Alleging that IPL proceedings for auction of cricketers were ''unfair, illegal and bad-in-law,'' the petitioner prayed the court to grant an interim injunction on the IPL tournament under sections 94 (c), 151 and and 0.39 R 1,2 CPC code, and declare the auctioning process as null and void.
