Goa to host netball cricket championship from tomorrow

Panaji, May 3 (UNI) Top eleven teams, including defending champions Orissa, will vie for top honours in the three-day second All India Senior Netball Cricket Championship for men and women which will get underway at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru stadium Fatorda in Margao in South Goa from tomorrow.

The Netball Cricket Federation of India (NCFI) vice president Jaswinder Lamba and Goa Netball Cricket Association (GNCA) secretary Sheikh Adam, speaking to media persons here today, said besides hosts Goa, the others teams who will participate in the event are reigning champions Orissa, Chandigardh, Punjab, Chattisgarh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Orissa were the champions in both men and women's sections in the last nationals at Puri in Orrisa. In the men's section, Orissa had defeated Chandigarh while in the women's section, they had beaten Punjab.

Mr Adam said two cricket pitches have been prepared at the Fatorda Sports Authority ground. The matches will be played on league-cum-knock out basis.

The championship is being organised by Goa Netball Cricket Association under the auspices of the Netball Cricket Federation of India. The finals will be held on May 6.
