Gilly backs Clarke to play well against Indian spinners

Sydney, Oct 7 (UNI) Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has backed Michael Clarke to do well against the spinners during the upcoming Test series in India.

''He's always been a terrific player of spin bowling. He's very quick on his feet and he's prepared to use his feet to get forward and back,'' Gilchrist said.

''That was the standout feature of his batting in the previous Indian series. Whatever he did by either going forward or going back, he did with great conviction, he added.

Clarke, who had scored a century on his Test debut in Bangalore during the 2004 tour of India, is one of the better players of spin in the Australian squad. Gilchirst wonders whether Clarke, with more pressure and reponsibilities on him than four years ago, will be able to dominate the spinners like he did then.

''It will be interesting to see four years on how the experience and the expectations and the pressure around international cricket affect a young guy who was completely raw and playing with so much freedom.

''It's going to be really intriguing to watch how that unfolds,'' he added.
