England win toss, elect to bat in second test

LEEDS, England, May 25 (Reuters) England won the toss and elected to bat first on day one of the second test against West Indies at Headingley today.

England captain Michael Vaughan returned for his first test match in 18 months, after recovering from a long-term knee injury and a broken finger that kept him out of the drawn first test at Lord's. He replaced Owais Shah.

The only other England change from Lord's was the recall of left-arm seamer Ryan Sidebottom for the injured Matthew Hoggard. Sidebottom's last test was against Pakistan in 2001.

West Indies, who have not won a series in England since 1988, made one change bringing in Sylvester Joseph for the injured Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who is suffering with tendonitis in his right knee. Joseph will be playing his fifth test match.

The four-match series also has games at Old Trafford and Durham's Riverside ground.
