Cricket Australia yet to decide on Antipodean candidate for ICC VP job

Melbourne, Mar 1(ANI): Cricket Australia (CA) has delayed its decision on whether former Australian Prime Minister John Howard will represent the Antipodes in the key role of International Cricket Council (ICC) vice-president.

The ICC is waiting on Australia and New Zealand to lodge a joint nomination on who will become vice-president in June and then take over the presidency in 2012.

CA and New Zealand Cricket have been at loggerheads for weeks over the selection of Howard or former New Zealand Cricket chairman Sir John Anderson.

CA was expected to announce whom they wanted to select as the region's candidate on Monday.

Meanwhile, CA spokesman Peter Young said that both boards had agreed on a "process" to nominate a candidate, but would not say whether they had agreed on a candidate.

"We haven't quite reached the point where we can hit the button and announce who that will be. We hope to make a public announcement on Tuesday," The Age quoted Young, as saying.

India's Sharad Pawar is the current vice-president and will soon take over the top job from England's David Morgan. (ANI)
