Cricket betting racket busted, three arrested
New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) The Delhi Police have busted cricket satta rackets in Delhi with the arrest of eight persons from East Delhi.
Hemant Kumar Tiwari, Atul Kumar and Ajay Sharma were arrested from the Mandawli area yesterday while they were placing bets on the India-West Indies Cricket match from a flat in Mandawali in East Delhi, police said.
The police also recovered from their possession a laptop, many mobile phones and a black and white TV.
Interrogation revealed that Hemant Kumar Tiwari, the kingpin of the racket, was running it along with Atul and Ajay. They used to change their operations base to avoid detection.
In another incident, the police arrested five persons from teh Vivek Vihar police station areas for indulging in betting on the India-West Indies match.
The racket was being run by one Sandeep from his electronic shop.
A case under the Gambling Act has been registered against all the eight persons.
