Corporate cricket sevens knock-out tournament from Mar 17
Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) The knock-out stage of the Dawnay Day AV Corporate Cricket 7s championship will commence at the Western Railway (WR) stadium here from March 17.
Addressing a news conference here today, Saran Presents CEO Sanjeev Saran, said as many as 100 teams and over 1000 executives will vie for the top honours in the Open Category (Champions Cup, Salver and Bowl), Seniors Cup and the Super Cup.
Mr Saran said that in a fast-paced contemporary world, where corporate bigwigs are zooming ahead, this tournament serves as a stress-free fourm in a relaxed environment.
He said the rules of the tournament are structured in such a way that only amateurs can participate. Any player having played the senior division Times or Kanga Legaue or on the domestic circuit is not allowed to play in the tournament.
Mr Saran said the competition will be played on a league-cum knockout basis and will be held during weekends.
Elaborating on the rules further, he said the matches would be seven overs-a-side match with one bowler being allowed only two overs maximum. Any batsman crossing the score of 29 has to compulsorily retire and cannot take strike again, even if his team has been dismissed, he added.
Among the corporate executives expected to take part this year include Alok Vajpaei (VC, Dawnay Day AV), Shitin Desai (VC and MD, Merill Lynch Ltd), T Doongaji (MD, Tata Services Ltd, Ravindra Kumar (Country Head, Wholesale Banking, ING Vyasa Bank), Navalbir Kumar (MD, Standard Chartered Mutual Fund), Nirvik Singh (Chairman, South Asia, Grey Worldwide), Shailendra Bhandari (MD, Centurion Bank of Punjab) among others.
