Chris Gayle named new West Indies ODI captain

Antigua, June 15 (UNI) Opening batsman Chris Gayle has been named captain of the 14-member West Indies squad for the ODI series against England and Ireland.

Gayle, who will be captaining the side for the first time, takes over the charge from Derren Ganga who was given the captaincy in the just concluded Test series against England after Ramnaresh Sarwan was forced out of the tour due to injury.

Dependable top order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been named vice-captain by the West Indies Cricket Board.

Ganga could not find a place in the ODI squad.

The Squad: Chris Gayle (captain), Shivanrine Chanderpaul (vice-captain), Dwayne Bravo, Fidel Edwards, Runako Morton, Daren Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Austin Richards Jr, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Devon Smith, Dwayne Smith.
