Chandana quits international cricket
Colombo, Sep 4 (UNI) Sri Lanka's discarded all-rounder Upul Chandana today announced his retirement from international cricket amid speculation of him joining the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).
According to reports, the 35-year-old all-rounder conveyed his decision to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) chief executive Duleep Mendis through a letter, but he did not specify the reason behind his decision.
Chandana, who is a leg-spinner and useful lower-order batsman, represented the emerald nation in 16 Tests and 147 one-dayers.
Inspite of his great potential, he never was a certainity in the Sri Lankan team which might have forced his decision.
However, speculations were rife that Chandana ended his 13-year-old career to join the multi-million dollar ICL.
Although no Lankan cricketer has officially signed up with the ICL, Chandana, former captain Marvan Atapattu and all-rounder Russel Arnold, who had recently drawn conclusion to his international career, have all been linked with the breakaway league.
The SLC had already issued a 'life ban' warning to its players who intends to join the private league.
