Champions Trophy Recap: A Look At 2009 Edition- Winner, Most Runs, Wickets, Player Of The Series
The 2009 ICC Champions Trophy took place in South Africa from September 22 to October 5, with matches held at Wanderers Stadium and Centurion Park in Gauteng. Originally slated to be hosted by Pakistan in 2008, the tournament was relocated due to security concerns.
This edition marked the sixth installment of the competition. The tournament featured two groups of four teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals, culminating in the final on October 5 at Centurion. Australia, the defending champions, retained their title by defeating New Zealand by six wickets.
Since Pakistan was initially set to host, South Africa took over as the host nation and secured automatic qualification. They were joined by the top seven teams from the ICC ODI Championship rankings as of August 1, 2009: India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.
