No Indian Representation Among Officials
One of the key takeaways from the ICC’s announcement is the absence of Indian match officials. While India has hosted major ICC events, including the 2023 World Cup, none of its umpires or match referees have been included in this elite panel. The ICC has not provided an official explanation for this omission, but the trend has been ongoing in recent years.
Former cricketers and analysts have pointed out that Indian umpires, despite officiating in high-profile domestic and IPL matches, have not been given prominent roles in ICC tournaments. This exclusion continues to raise discussions on selection criteria and global representation in officiating panels.
Sean Easey, ICC’s Senior Manager for Umpires and Referees, emphasized the experience and quality of the selected officials. “We always strive to appoint the most deserving officials for such prestigious events, and we are confident that this group will do an outstanding job in both Pakistan and the UAE,” Easey stated.
The Champions Trophy 2025 will begin with India facing Bangladesh in Dubai on February 19, with the tournament culminating in the final on March 9.
