BCCI recommends Dhoni for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award

New Delhi, Jul 8 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended India's ODI and Twenty20 captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

The BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty informed that the board has already sent its recommendation to the Sports Ministry with Dhoni's name for the highest honour for any sportsperson in the country.

''The board has already forwarded Dhoni's name for the country's highest sports award for 2007 to the Sports Ministry,'' Shetty said.

The Dhoni-led team India defeated Asutralia in a tri-series and also won the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa last year.

Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is the only cricketer to have won the award. He won the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 1997-98.

The award, along with Arjuna and Dronacharya awards, will be given away by the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 29.
