Back-to-back matches can be too tough on players: Kumble

Bangalore, June 30 (UNI) Toeing the line of his one-day counterpart M S Dhoni, Indian Test team captain Anil Kumble today said playing back-to-back one-day games can be tough on players.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the seven-day cricket camp for India's test specialists, he said ''it is not easy to play two games in two days and it will be quite tough and demanding on all the players.'' The skipper was commenting on back-to-back matches which had been programmed in the Asia Cup Tournament, underway in Pakistan.

To a question, Kumble agreed that upcoming batsmen Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir have the mettle to make it to the Test team. ''It was nice to have such good talent waiting in the wings to enter the test team,'' he said.

''We as a Test team have played exceptionally well during the last two tours. We will sit in Mumbai on July eight to figure out what sort of combination we need for Sri Lanka,'' he said.

About the Sri Lankan tour, he said the players would first assemble in Chennai and after selection, players would take part in a two-day practice session, before leaving for Colombo.

India plays three Tests and five one-day games, with the first Test beginning on July 23.
