'Rare for someone to do that...' Rohit Sharma points out Mohammed Siraj's special quality

India captain Rohit Sharma was too pleased with the effort Mohammed Siraj put during the Asia Cup 2023 final as the pacer took 6/21 in the team's emphatic 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Mohammed Siraj's special performance bundled out the hosts for just 50 runs by the 16th over of the innings after Lankan captain Dashun Shanaka opted to bat first. Hardik Pandya (3/3) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/23) chipped in with wickets as well but it was Mohammed Siraj, who became the toast of the nation.

"I was standing in the slips, and something we take pride in - our seamers have been working really hard. Very very clear in their mind. It was good to see that. Such a performance we will cherish for a long time," said Rohit Sharma during the post-match presentation ceremony.

"I never thought it's going to do that much. Comes down to the skillset of individuals. Mohammad Siraj has to be given a lot of credit. Rare for seamers to move the ball in the air and off the pitch. He's coming off age."

Rohit Sharma further added that despite the slow start in the tournament, which saw them struggle in patches against Pakistan and then Nepal, India are taking home a lot of positive as they next face Australia for an ODI series in five days' time and is followed by the ICC World Cup 2023 at home.

"We did everything we could've achieved as a team in this tournament. Look forward to the series that is coming up in India, and then the World Cup. The way Hardik and Ishan batted in that pressure situation against Pakistan, and then KL and Virat getting hundreds. The way Gill has been batting. Guys have stood up at various stages," concluded Rohit Sharma.

India play first of the three-match ODI series with the first match being played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
