The left-handed opener, who became the sixth century maker in the Test and fourth from his side, made 130 from 243 balls from which he struck 13 fours as England declared at 260 for three, that translated to an overall lead of 309.

Cook also became the fourth visiting batsman to have scored 1000-plus runs on Indian soil. This was also his 6th Test century against India and 5th on Indian soil.
In the first hour of play, England showed little intent on getting quick runs. With the wicket playing easy, Cook and Hameed had no trouble in facing the pace-cum-spin attack employed by the hosts.
