3 nabbed for betting in India-West Indies Chennai ODI
Fatehabad, Jan 28 (UNI) The Haryana police last night nabbed three persons, on charges of placing bets on the India-West Indies ODI played at Chennai.
The police recovered three mobile phones, a colour television and betting amount of Rs 24,750 in cash from the alleged accused, police today said.
The police received a tip-off that certain persons sitting in the office of the India Bulls, a finance company, situated on the Sirsa road were betting on the ongoing India-West Indies limited overs day-night match being played at Chennai.
A cop was sent to the office in civil dress to take stock of the situation inside the office.
After getting the signal from the cop, a police party led by Sub Inspector Hukam Singh, incharge of the local Bus Stand police post raided the office.
The police found that Sachin Gupta, Branch Manager of the local branch of the India Bulls was betting on the cricket match along with local residents. The police also took in to custody two other persons sitting in the office, but they were later released, when it was found that they were not betting.
The police, on the basis of call details of the mobile phones of the accused, was trying to identitfy whether some other persons were also involved in the betting.
In a another incident, special staff of the Inspector General of Police, Hisar, yesterday raided a house in the local Aggarwal Colony in search of a 'Satta King' of the area. The 'Satta King', a big name in betting business here, allegedly managed to give the police the slip by scaling the rear boundary wall of the house.
