Sindhu started the first game with strong control and led by four points. Wardani closed the gap later in the game. Sindhu then drew level at 16-all. She won five straight points to close the opener. The second game stayed tight, but Sindhu held key leads.
Singapore Open 2026: Satwik-Chirag Make A Stunning Comeback
In men's doubles, World No. 4 Satwik-Chirag defeated Chen Zhi Yi and Presley Smith 26-28, 21-15, 21-13. They lost the opening game despite saving seven game points. The match lasted one hour and 15 minutes. They now meet Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei.
The Indian pair raised their level in the second game. They controlled the mid-game phase with sharp attacks and quick defence. Satwik-Chirag forced a decider with a 21-15 score. In the third game, they pulled clear early and wrapped up the match 21-13.
In men's singles, Ayush Shetty lost to Victor Lai. Ayush took the opening game 21-11 with steady play. However, he could not keep that pace in the next games. Lai recovered and took control to win 21-14, 21-12 and progress to the next round.
Other Indian players in action on day one also exited after first round defeats. Their opponents won in straight or three-game matches. The early results left Sindhu and the Satwik-Chirag pair as the main Indian hopes in the draw at the Singapore Open.
