Saina Nehwal eases into Singapore Open quarterfinals

Singapore, Jun 12 (UNI) Turning in a superb performance, Saina Nehwal defeated Juan Gu in straight sets to enter the quarterfinals of the women's singles in the Aviva Singapore Open badminton championship here.

Nehwal ouplayed the the local qualifier 21-19, 21-17 in the second round encounter.

She will take on Firdasari Adrianti of Indonesia who upset top seed PI Hongyan of France 21-16, 20-22, 21-16 in the last eight stage.

India faced disappointment in the men's section with both Anup Sridhar and Arvind Bhatt crashing out of the tournament.

Bhat put up a tough fight before going down 11-21, 27-25, 15-21 to Joachim Persson of Denmark while Sridhar lost 17-21, 13-21 to Malaysia's Sairul Amar Ayob.
