Saina, Guru Sai Dutt move into world junior badminton quarters

Pune, Oct 30 (UNI) Top seed and local favourite Saina Nehwal stormed into the quarterfinals of the girls singles event in the world junior badminton championship being held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City here today.

Saina, who is in the top 15 in the world, needed just 24 minutes to quell the challenge of her Chinese Taipei Han Shin Hung in the third round beating her in straight sets at 21-13, 21-11. Later in the evening in the pre quarterfinals Saina once again proved to be too strong for the girl from Hong Kong Tse Kong Suet thrashing her 21-9, 21-13.

The fifth seed in the boys singles Guru Sai Dutt also booked his quarterfinal berth with a hard fight against Kuan Chung Kuan of Malaysia in the pre quarterfinal match. He won at 19-21 21-19 21-12.

Earlier, in the third round Guru Sai Dutt had thrashed Martin Cambell of Scotland in straight sets at 21-6, 21-13.

The Indian pair of P C Tulasi and Sikki Reddy also moved ahead with an easy win over the Egyptian pair of EL Tanany Menatallah and Elbanna Noran. The Indian pair thrashed the Egyptian pair in straight sets at 21-5, 21-6.
