Saina, Chetan retain women

Panaji, Jan 27 (UNI) Top-seed Saina Nehwal and third-seed B Chetan Anand (both of Petroleum) today retained women and men's singles titles respectively for the second year in row on the concluding day of the 72nd Senior National Badmintion championship, being held at the indoor complex Campal in Goa.

In the women's singles final, Saina did not have to sweat hard and beat her partner second-seed Trupti Murgunde 21-11, 21-10, in 40 minutes.

While in the men's singles final, third-seed B Chetan Anand also won comfortably over his teammate fourth-seed Arvind Bhat in a straight set 21-14, 22-20 in 35 minutes.

And in the men's doubles, top-seed pair Sanave Thomas (Ker) partnering with Rupesh Kumar (Pet) defeated third-seeded pair Akshay Dewalkar (AI) and V Diju (PET) 21-17, 21-17.

With this, Petroleum Sports Promotional Board (PSPB) has won all seven titles of the championship.

Out of the seven titles, Petroleum shuttlers retained five titles -- men and women's singles, women's doubles and men and women's team championship.

Goa Governor S C Jamir, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes to the winners.
