All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament in Kochi
Kochi, May 30 (UNI) About 1,200 shuttlers will vie for the honours at the seventh RSC All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament to be held here for six days from June one.
Speaking to reporters here, Regional Sports Centre (RSC) Chairman Mohammed Hanish said competitions would be held for 17 events for boys and girls in different age groups in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
He said the competition, with a total prize money of Rs two lakh, approved by the Badminton Association of India, would also be a selection tournament to pick the Indian team for the coming Junior Asian Badminton Championship, to be held in July in Malaysia.
The selection committee members, including Pullela Gopichand, Ami Gia, Madhumita Bisht, Dinesh Khanna, Pradeep Gandhi, L C Gupta and V K Varma, would be here to select the team.
Mr Hanish said the RSC would be organising the All India Karate Tournament in June and the Open Chess Tournament in October-November.
The badminton preparatory camp, consisting of 12 players in singles and as many in doubles, under Indonesion Coach Hadi Sugianto for the 2010 Commonwealth Games would be held here for a month in October.
