Bernardo Silva Exit Hint At Manchester City As Ljinders Reflects On Departure

Bernardo Silva appears to be nearing a farewell to Manchester City, with assistant coach Pep Ljinders suggesting the story is entering its final chapter. Silva's contract runs until June, and Ljinders said there are around six weeks left, adding that Silva deserves a proper goodbye and full appreciation.

Silva reached 450 appearances for Manchester City during the FA Cup win over Liverpool, in which Manchester City recorded a heavy victory. Across those matches, Silva has scored 76 goals and produced 77 assists. The captain has also collected 15 major trophies during nine years at the Etihad Stadium.

Those honours include six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cups including this season's success, the Champions League and the Club World Cup. Such consistency has attracted interest, with Silva linked to Barcelona, current LaLiga leaders, as well as Juventus and former club Benfica while no contract extension is agreed.

Silva joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017 and has become central to the team’s style. That influence was highlighted again when Ljinders stepped in for Pep Guardiola at a press conference and said: "You never replace a player with the same kind of player because they don't exist, he said, standing in for Pep Guardiola in Saturday's press conference. Bernardo Silva is unique. The way he controls games, the way he moves, the way he receives, the way he leads, the way he sees the solutions. All these things. But it will be hard because, as I said, in the game, when he is not playing, you will see how he is missedand that's one game. Imagine a season."

Ljinders also discussed how Manchester City might adapt if Silva departs, stressing that the club will look at the broader needs of the side rather than a like-for-like signing. "You never search for a replacement of one type of player, Ljindersadded. You search for what is needed to grow with the team and somebody who can fit in the first 11."

Ljinders pointed towards the academy and recent young signings as potential options for future midfield roles, while also underlining the importance of experienced figures staying. "And then you hope, with our academy, with the young players we already bought, that they can make that step as well in the midfield positions. If you see our young boys in the academy, then they have to make that step and to grow. But the most important is that the seniors who stay for a long time, that they stay, that they are always there, andaround that, you can move."

Reflecting on the emotional side, Ljinders accepted the difficulty of saying goodbye to such a central player but repeated that nothing lasts forever. "But every good story comes to an end, and I hope he enjoys the last monthsthere are only six weeksand has a good farewell. He deserves all that attention as well."

The club highlighted Silva's influence by sharing footage of a motivational address before the Liverpool tie, captioned:

That message underlined Silva's leadership presence, which Manchester City may soon need to replace on and off the pitch.

For now, Bernardo Silva remains central to Manchester City's push on multiple fronts, but the absence of a new deal and Ljinders' comments point towards a likely parting this season. Any exit would close a successful nine-year spell that has shaped Manchester City's recent era.
