MS Dhoni once again proved why he's one of the best finishers in the game as he helped Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets in a last-ball thriller.
With 17 required from the final over, the former CSK captain kept his calm and delivered for his team to turn back the clock.
This was MI's seventh successive win in the season as they are virtually out of the tournament. CSK, however, stay in the hunt with four points.
Daniel Sams starred for the five-time champions as he gave MI an electric start in the powerplay to dismiss CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad for a first-ball duck.
Mitchell Santner (11) was his second victim in the powerplay.The left-arm pacer then removed Ambati Rayudu (40) and Shivam Dube in the middle overs to push CSK further on the back foot as he finished with 4/30.
Earlier in the day, young Tilak Varma once again showcased his batting talent as he slammed his second IPL fifty. The talented 19-year-old batsman was running short of partners at the other end but he kept his wicket intact.
The left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 51 off 43 balls and helped his team post a fighting 155 for 7 on a pitch where batting didn't look easy.
He was aided by in-form Suryakumar Yadav (32 off 21) and debutant Hrithik Shokeen (25 off 25) as MI managed to score 99 in the last 10 overs.
Mukesh Choudhary (3/19) was the pick of the bowlers for CSK as the left-arm pacer removed MI's top three (Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis) cheaply.
However, CSK's catching was a major letdown as they could have easily restricted their opponents below 130. CSK fielders had butterfingers as they dropped four simple catches in the game.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in an IPL 2022 match on Thursday (April 21) and the two protagonists will require a win mandatorily to stay afloat, at least in theory, in the tournament.
The defending champions CSK are 9th with just two points from six matches and five-time champions MI are 10th and are yet to open their account and their net run rate is quite abysmal.
The MI need to win the remaining games with such high margins to take care of the sagging NRR and they would like to make a beginning here.
But CSK too will ready for an old foe.
