Commentary
Gujarat Titans defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 runs to register their third win on the trot.
Chasing a sub-par 157, KKR batters once again disappointed and could only muster 148 for 8 in the 20 overs in the run chase.
Andre Russell failed to help his team cross the line as he couldn't close the game which went down the wire. KKR have now suffered their fourth defeat on the bounce to slide down to number 7.
After the top order failed, the responsibility of taking the team home lay on Russell's shoulders and it seemed the luck was in his favour as Yash Dayal dismissed him 4 but the youngster had overstepped, giving the big-hitting Jamaican a breather.
Dre Russ (48 off 25) was dismissed on the second ball of the final over, thus ending KKR's hopes of a late heist.
The Titans once again proved why they are a team to beat in this tournament as their bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals and never allowed the KKR batters to forge partnerships.
Leading from the front, captain Hardik Pandya scored a fighting 49-ball 67 in his comeback match.
Having opted to bat first, Gujarat Titans could only post 159 for 9. From 133 for 2, the Titans suffered a batting collapse as they lost 7 wickets in 23 runs.
Tim Southee (3/24) and Andre Russell (4/5) emerged as the pick of the bowlers for KKR and prevented GT from scoring big.
With this win, the IPL newbies clinched their sixth win of the season and went to the top of the table.
