After falling to two consecutive losses, the Delhi Capitals bounced back with a thrashing 44-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in match no. 19 of the ongoing IPL season on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first at the Brabourne Stadium, the Capitals put up a massive total of 215/5, riding on half-centuries from openers Prithvi Shaw (51 off 29) and David Warner (61 off 45). After the openers along with skipper Rishabh Pant (27 off 14) put Delhi on course of a strong total, Shardul Thakur (29 off 11) and Axar Patel (22 off 14) sizzled with the bat in the last four overs to guide Delhi to a strong total against the Knights.
With the batsmen doing their bit, the bowlers - led by a lethal display from Kuldeep Yadav (4/35) and Khaleel Ahmed (3/25) bowled the Knights out to pick up their second win of the season. Shardul, who had impressed with the bat, picked up two wickets.
Despite a solid half-century from KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer (54 off 33), the Knights struggled to put runs on the board as they were bowled out for 171 with two balls to spare. Kuldeep was the star of the show as he returned with a sensational four-wicket haul against his former team.

In the first match of today's IPL 2022 double-header, Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns with Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer will be leading KKR against a franchise he once captained for two and a half seasons. And his journey with KKR so far hasn't been bad either as he has led the team to three wins in 4 matches. However, he is due a performance with the bat.
KKR has beaten Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, while they suffered a solitary defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Rishabh Pant, who replaced Iyer as DC skipper in 2021, has led his team to only one win in three matches this season. Pant's DC opened 2022 season with a win over record champions MI, but suffered back-to-back defeats to new entrants Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.
So, DC will look to get their campaign back on track and will hope the likes of David Warner and Anrich Nortje fire for them after failures in their first matches of the season. Like Shreyas, who is facing his former side, Kuldeep Yadav too returns to face KKR, his former franchise.
DC will have their task cut-out as they will be up against an in-form side, who also have their number in the head-to-head battles. KKR has won 16 of the 29 meetings against the Delhi-based franchise.
