Rajasthan Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by a massive 72-run margin to kick off their IPL 2023 campaign on a confident note.
The fourth match of the IPL 2023 was played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad turned out to be a dull encounter as the home team failed to put up a fight.
Put in to bat first, Royals - who were the runners-up of IPL 2022 - posted a mammoth 203/5 in 20 overs, courtesy three fifties from their top-three.
Jos Buttler (54 off 22), Yashasvi Jaiswal (54 off 37) and captain Sanju Samson (55 off 32) laid a solid foundation for the Royals. The Men in Pink finished on a high as the game saw the first team to breach the 200-run mark in the competition.
SRH speedster Umran Malik once again impressed with his sheer pace and demolished the stumps of Devdutt Padikkal with a 150 kmph screamer.
Chasing a big total, SRH lost two wickets in the first over when Trent Boult dismissed Abhishek Sharma (0) and Rahul Tripathi (0).
Harry Brook and Glenn Philips - who made their debuts for SRH - failed to make an impression in the game.
After Boult, it was the turn of Yuzvendra Chahal to shine as the leg-spinner - who was the Purple Cap winner of IPL 2023 - returned with a four-for.
SRH could muster only 131 for the loss of 8 wickets in the run chase and lost the game by 72 runs.
