Commentary

Rahul Tripathi returned to haunt former team as quick-fire fifty helps Sunrisers Hyderabad seal a 7-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Tripathi smashed 71 off 37 balls and shared a 94-run stand off 54 balls with Aiden Markram, who scored an unbeaten 68 off 36 balls to power SRH past the target of 176 with 13 balls to spare.

The result meant, SRH registered their third successive win to climb up the IPL 2022 points table, while KKR lost their second successive match, their third in 6 matches.

Earlier, put into bat, KKR lost three wickets inside power play, but knocks from skipper Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana and Andre Russell helped the Kolkata-based franchise to post a challenging total of 175/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Rana top scored for KKR with 54 off 36 balls (6 fours and 2 sixes), while Russell smashed an unbeaten 49 off 25 balls (4 fours and 4 sixes). Shreyas also made a contribution of 28 from 25 balls (3 fours) before an excellent yorker from speedster Umran Malik cleaned him up.

T Natarajan (3 for 37) and Malik (2 for 27) were the stand out bowlers for SRH, while Marco Jansen (1 for 26), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1 for 37) and Jagadeesha Suchith (1 for 32) also chipped in with wickets.
