Commentary
Chennai Super Kings finally registered their first win of IPL 2022 as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs in the southern derby.
CSK opened their account in the points table in their fifth league game of the season which was also their 200th IPL match.
Chasing a massive 217, RCB were off to a poor start as their big three Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell fell early in the run chase.
CSK spinner Maheesh Theekshana returned with the best figures of 4/33 as the pick of the bowlers.Captain Ravindra Jadeja was also at his best with the ball as the left-arm spinner returned with 3/39.
For RCB, debutant Suyash Prabhudesai (34 off 18), Shahbaz Ahmed (41 off 27) and Dinesh Karthik (34 off 14) kept their side hunt with their powerful cameos. But their efforts were in vain as the top four disappointed in a big run chase.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis had invited CSK to bat first on a used Dr DY Patil Sports Academy pitch. It all seemed good for the bowling side till the first six overs as Super Kings lost Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali early in the innings.
However, Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube had other ideas as the duo made a mockery of RCB bowling and shared a massive 165-run partnership off just 74 balls for the third wicket and guided their team to the highest total of the season.
Dube (95*) and Uthappa (89) became the first CSK batters to score in excess of 85-plus in the same innings in the IPL.
It was also the third instance among all teams in the tournament's history.
Uthappa smashed 9 sixes in the innings while Dube hit eight.
CSK took just 14 balls from 150 to 200 which showed how well those two attacked RCB bowlers.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Chennai Super Kings in an IPL 2022 match on Tuesday (April 12) and the CSK will be eager to script a turnaround a familiar foe.
The CSK have lost 4 matches in a row in IPL 2022, a first since 2010, and they are winless in IPL 15.
So the Chennai outfit led by Ravindra Jadeja will be keen to get on to the table with 2 points.
