Pune, May 4: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs on Wednesday (May 4) and stayed in the mix for an IPL 2022 playoffs berth.
The win also helped RCB to return to top 4 with 12 points while the CSK suffered a massive blip even to their theoretical playoff chances.
Earlier, Royal Challenger Bangalore cantered to 173 for 8 despite regular fall of wickets. Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis gave the RCB a good start, making 62 runs in 7.2 overs and laid a good foundation for a far bigger total than what is eventually transpired.
The dismissal of Faf temporarily brought a lull to the RCB charge but gained the momentum back through Mahipal Lomoror and Rajat Patidar.
Lomoror made 42 off 27 balls and Patidar made 21 off 15 balls as the RCB looked to shift the gears in the second half of the match.
But CSK snuffed out the momentum from RCB innings a bit as Sri Lankan mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana grabbed three wickets in one over in the 19th as the Bangalore side struggled for late momentum.
It required a cameo by Dinesh Karthik, 26 off 17 balls, and an assault on Dwaine Pretorious in the 20th over for RCB to get to a competitive total in the end.

However, a win can keep their slender hopes alive, and they will derive confidence from the fact that CSK had emerged winner from their first match in IPL 2022 last month.
